Climbing is a sport that in itself is a little different to other sports such as collective team sports. Individuals who may never step foot onto a Football, Rugby or Cricket pitch for whatever reason, may fail to take up sport at all, in the belief that “sport” just isn’t for them. At our centre we find such comments common, though unconsciously we see individuals turning such comments on their head. We see individuals not only taking part in an active and demanding sport that offers physical well-being but at the same time also strengthens, instils and encourages confidence via progression. This confidence and progression in itself creates paths once thought by individuals to be unattainable, going on and leading to many possibilities, on into their future with many new skills learned such as assessing and managing risk, trust and communication. Further to this and finally within the sport are many valuable role models from centre coaches and instructors right the way up to ambassadors within the sport/Industry, both youth and adult.
Demand and need are, I believe in evidence, nonetheless we do see and feel the need to reach out to individuals who may not be in a position to get to the starting blocks of what could significantly be a very positive experience for their future development.
